The Benchmade Altitude is a light-weight fixed knife, made from amazing materials. Benchmade has introduced the Altitude to the Hunting collection. Its name, however, tells you where the inspiration came from: mountaineering With a weight of only 47 grams (70 grams with sheath) this is truly a light-weight option.
If you want to save some weight, you will definitely not want take sharpening stones with you. That is why Benchmade used a great type of steel for the blade: CPM S90V. This is a stainless type of steel that retains its sharpness well. As such you only rarely have to sharpen your knife, which is great when you spend time on the road. S90V might be a stainless type of steel: it is not completely stainless. Long-term exposure to fruit acids or salt water could leave you with stains. That is why Benchmade enhanced the Altitude with a black DLC coating. DLC stands for Diamond Like Coating. A rock-solid coating that is also very sustainable.
Because the thin handle does not always provide you with enough grip Benchmade enhanced the handle with a small block of carbon fibre. It might not look like a lot, but once in hand you notice how much this small block affects the ergonomics. In addition, the handle provides enough grip for the kydex sheath.
